About the role

At Pathfinder, our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) do more than provide transportation—they empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live self-directed, meaningful lives. As a DSP – Transportation Driver, you'll help individuals access their communities, learn new skills, attend appointments, and achieve personal goals while ensuring their safety, dignity, and independence every step of the way.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation & Community Access
    • Safely transport individuals to appointments, activities, employment opportunities, and community events.
    • Follow transportation schedules and routes while maintaining flexibility to meet changing needs.
    • Ensure all transportation practices comply with Pathfinder policies and applicable regulations.
    • Promote positive community engagement and inclusion during transportation and community activities.
    • Communicate professionally with families, community partners, and other drivers as needed.
  • Individual Support & Skill Development
    • Support individuals in developing daily living, communication, social, and work-related skills.
    • Encourage independence by providing support that builds on each person's strengths, abilities, and choices.
    • Aid in personal care and daily living activities when needed.
    • Support individuals in participating in meaningful activities that align with their goals and interests.
    • Advocate for individual rights, self-determination, and community inclusion.
  • Health, Safety & Well-Being
    • Administer medications and perform health-related duties as trained and authorized.
    • Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately to emergencies.
    • Help protect individuals from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Documentation & Recordkeeping
    • Complete accurate, timely documentation related to services, goals, transportation, and daily activities.
    • Document progress toward individual support plans and goals.
    • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
    • Ensure records meet agency, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Teamwork & Professional Growth
    • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and support teams to provide quality services.
    • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
    • Follow Pathfinder policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Contribute to a positive, supportive workplace culture.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma/GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Basic language, written, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to support people with disabilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed.
  • Crisis prevention, intervention, and teaching skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, and safe driving record.
  • Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
  • Ability to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull against potential resistance.
