- Sunday: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
- 28 hours per week
About the Role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will provide individualized support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The DSP must be able to work effectively with or without direct supervision, collaborate within a team, handle crisis situations calmly and professionally, and interact courteously with others. The role requires adaptability to a flexible, fast-paced environment.
Supervision is received from the Residential Program Manager. No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily instruction and assistance tailored to each individual’s needs, including:
- Meal planning, preparation, and adherence to dietary guidelines
- Leisure time planning and hobby development
- Medication administration
- Money management and personal purchases
- Transportation arrangements
- Home maintenance
- Personal hygiene support
- Coordination of personal, medical, and social appointments
- Complete required documentation during shifts, such as behavior plans, individual goals, financial records, communication logs, nursing logs, incident reports, and medication Kardex.
- Maintain records of supported individuals’ care, conditions, progress, or concerns, and report observations to the manager/supervisor and clinical team.
- Provide support, treatment, and documentation for unusual incidents.
- Ensure confidentiality of individuals supported and agency information.
- Maintain positive and diplomatic relationships with families, advocates, and friends of supported individuals.
- Accompany individuals to medical appointments or other outings, providing transportation, assistance, and companionship.
- Responsibly manage and record house petty cash and individual funds according to agency policy.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers, residential support managers, administrative personnel, clinical staff, and community providers.
- Read daily communications, stay updated on relevant issues, and report problems or concerns to the support manager.
- Maintain all required certifications and training as mandated by regulatory bodies and agency policies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and respond appropriately.
- Attend and participate in required staff meetings.
- Provide emergency coverage as needed.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current driver’s license required.
- At least one year of experience preferred.
- Experience working with individuals who are intellectually or developmentally disabled is preferred.
Skills
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Understanding of personal care, housekeeping, and related support areas.
- Intermediate technology and computer skills.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
- Ability to bend, push, pull, and lift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
