Direct Support Professional / Caregiver

About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Dungarvin provides direct support, hands-on instruction, assistance, and positive direction to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and personalized care while encouraging independence and self-care.
• Absorb and provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
• Administer medications and follow medical protocols.
• Prepare meals and snacks.
• Perform light housekeeping and laundry duties.
• Provide mobility and transfer assistance, including using mechanical lift devices.
• Implement positive behavior supports and de-escalate challenging behaviors when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a direct support professional or caregiver is preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Person-centered focus.
• Dependable, adaptable, and flexible.
• Positive role-model for others and able to work on a team.
• Basic computer skills for documentation.
• Age 18 or older.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• Ability to lift and transfer.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of medical protocols and procedures.
