Direct Support Professional 1:1 (Day Hab)

Responsibilities

• Manage one volunteer in the Day Program by implementing and recording progress of habilitative and clinical service plans.
• Serve as a member of the activity‑room staff, performing routine direct‑care duties for the activity room and other volunteers as directed by the Site Manager.
• Assist the volunteer with activities designed to manage maladaptive behaviors, clinical needs, and to promote independence and social maturity.
• Assist in managing behavioral‑crisis situations throughout the day program and in the community.
• Execute service activities outlined in the volunteer’s day habilitation plan, including self‑care, ADL, recreation, community inclusion, and crisis behavior management.
• Maintain the volunteer’s record books by collecting data, writing narrative notes, and documenting observations for accurate assessments and evaluations.
• Report all changes in the volunteer’s behavior, function, or physical condition (illness/injury) to the Site Manager, Program Coordinator, and appropriate clinical departments.
• Attend and participate in scheduled meetings to discuss the volunteer’s status and determine needed modifications to the clinical plan.
• Develop and improve job‑related skills by attending in‑service training and meetings focused on the MR/DD population.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the supervisor, including driving duties and adherence to corporate compliance (COMPASS).
• Complete required personal outcome measures training prior to conducting evaluations and assessments.

Skills

• Proficiency in behavioral management techniques, including crisis intervention.
• Strong verbal, written, and reading communication abilities.
• Ability to collect and document data accurately for assessment purposes.
• Capability to support independence in self‑care, ADL, recreation, and community inclusion.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• At least six months of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred).
• Qualified New York State driver’s license.
• Willingness to complete advanced training upon request (e.g., CPR, clinical training).
• Completion of AMAP and SCIP‑R training.
