The Director of Enterprise Applications and Data Platforms directs, plans, coordinates, and leads the Enterprise Applications team; provides strategic and operational direction for enterprise-wide business data applications, web-based technologies, mobile, and business intelligence. This role ensures successful user experience (UX) for applications, oversees quality assurance (QA) and release management, and supervises assigned professional and technical personnel. The Director is a forward-looking technology leader who develops strategies for software selection, deployment, implementation, and integration into daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for enterprise applications to ensure alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Select and manage relationships with software vendors to ensure enterprise applications meet performance expectations and contractual obligations, including negotiating contracts, handling escalations, and ensuring SLAs are met.
- Lead the implementation of enterprise applications, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems through project planning, resource allocation, timeline management, and configuration/customization oversight.
- Monitor the performance and usage of enterprise applications to ensure they meet business needs.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with enterprise applications, including security vulnerabilities, compliance issues, and system failures, by implementing robust security measures and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Enable and implement analytics, expanding the role of current reporting capabilities by building system integration and data sharing across commercial platforms with architectures that standardize and simplify data management.
- Ensure operational security of enterprise applications and SaaS by coordinating with cybersecurity teams, and implement and regularly test robust Incident Response, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Plans.
- Provide thought leadership and innovation to develop forward-looking automation solutions, including IoT (Internet of Things) and AI technologies.
- Identify emerging technology trends, especially in SaaS and cloud computing, including API, robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other digital technologies.
- Communicate technological solutions that improve business operations based on research, capability, integration ability, and cost.
- Drive cultural change by instituting a continuous delivery model that fosters automation of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Work with business leaders to develop training and deployment plans aimed at maximizing user adoption and realization of business benefits.
- Partner with the VP of IT and IT Leadership Team to build and modernize the organizational structure and business processes to support growth in an increasingly digital world.
- Manage a staff of technology professionals, including hiring, training, conducting performance reviews, and providing leadership and coaching for technical and personal development.
- Drive a collaborative culture that values technical depth, accountability, and customer service.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in information systems, information technology, or equivalent work experience; an MBA or M.S. in information technology or data science is desired.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in technology leadership positions with an emphasis on application delivery and data platforms.
- Proven experience managing complex solutions portfolios, including both business and operational solutions.
- Proven experience creating and managing outsourced relationships, both domestic and global.
- Experience migrating applications (commercial and internally developed) into a cloud solution (SaaS).
- Experience managing large vendor relationships (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Salesforce, Autodesk, ADP, Microsoft).
- Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) framework to standardize the selection, planning, delivery, maintenance, and overall lifecycle of applications.
- Experience successfully engaging and managing contract resources.
- Experience developing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
