Responsibilities

• Provide a quality dining experience by greeting and seating residents and guests.
• Oversee dining services staff in the absence of the Manager and maintain a pleasant and clean dining environment.
• Supervise other staff positions as required.
• Assist the Manager with daily supervision of dining services associates.
• Ensure smooth and timely opening and closing of the dining room.
• Ensure room service orders are delivered timely and properly.
• Ensure meals are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
• Maintain a pleasant and clean environment and inspect work to ensure completion.
• Adhere to all safety and sanitation standards.
• Plan daily menus for residents in accordance with company standards and procedures.
• Ensure proper staffing coverage for each shift, including making changes due to absences.
• Work with the Dining Room Manager to produce weekly schedules within budgetary guidelines for service staff.
• Assist service staff during mealtime as needed.
• Greet and seat residents and guests.
• Assist in resident billing of food services charges.
• Oversee staff in the absence of the Manager.
• Provide supervision for special events.
• In consultation with the Director of Dining Services, hire, train, discipline, and terminate departmental employees in accordance with company policy.
• Develop and maintain good working rapport with inter-department personnel and other departments to ensure food service meets residents' needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; one-year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
• Minimum of one to two years of related experience.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Current ServSafe Certification required.
• Obtain/hold any local, state, and/or county required food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.

• Working knowledge of a skill or discipline requiring basic analytic ability.
• Overall understanding of the work environment and processes.
• Working knowledge of the organization.
• Outgoing, cheerful, energetic, and friendly personality.
• Organized and capable of walking and standing for long periods.
• Ability to work with older adults.
• Ability to read and write English, communicate with residents and employees, and follow oral and written directions.

Management/Decision Making

• Uses limited independent judgment to make decisions based on precedents and established guidelines.
• Solves problems using standard procedures and precedents.
• Knows when to refer issues to a supervisor and when to handle them personally.

Base pay is determined by applicant’s skills and experience. Temporary associates are not benefits-eligible but may participate in the company’s 401(k) program. Brookdale offers to advance fees for naturalization (Form N-400) application costs, up to $725 (less applicable taxes and withholding), for qualified associates who have been with the company for at least a year.
