Digital Talk Producer

About the role

The Digital Talk Producer at Iowa Public Radio is responsible for growing the station's digital audience by transforming talk show and podcast content into multi-platform digital media. This role works closely with the talk and digital teams, creating graphics, editing visuals, preparing daily website news copy, and serving as the writer for IPR's Garden Variety and Chatter newsletters. Additionally, the producer extends content to NPR and social media platforms, using audience data and regular performance analysis to optimize digital storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Create compelling graphics and edit field visuals to enhance digital media
• Extend IPR's reach to NPR and social media platforms
• Shape IPR's newsletter portfolio, including being the writer for the popular Garden Variety newsletter and contributing to Chatter
• Use data and audience testing to elevate storytelling

Requirements

• At least one year of experience as either an intern or full-time employee in a professional journalism or media organization
• Experience working in multimedia and digital platforms and knowledge of content promotion strategies
• Experience working with digital audio editing software
• Firm foundation in journalism ethics, news gathering and reporting techniques
• Experience creating and optimizing content for search results
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Production, Communications, English, or related field
• Experience building a personality and presence on at least one social media platform
• A love for the internet, storytelling, and serving an informed public

• Sharp news and cultural judgment

• Knowledge of AP writing style

Pay

Anticipated Hiring Range: $42,000 - $55,803
