Digital Strategist
About the role
BizStream is looking for a Digital Strategist to create and optimize digital experiences and marketing campaigns for our clients. You will work with clients across a range of industries and project types, and you will be the driving force behind initiatives spanning user experience, content strategy, website strategy, analytics, and measurement. As a Digital Strategist, you’ll own the direction from discovery through project completion: audience and competitive research, SEO/GEO strategy, measurement planning, and conversion optimization.
You’ll translate strategic direction into artifacts our designers and developers build against, including user journeys, sitemaps and information architecture, and clear requirements documentation, then stay engaged through delivery so what ships matches the strategy. You’re equally comfortable with data and people—digging into analytics one moment and leading an engaging client workshop the next—and you know how to help a client choose a direction and stick with it.
BizStream is a dynamic digital agency located just outside of Grand Rapids, MI, renowned for exceptional website development, branding, and creative design services. This team is passionate about technology and design, working hard and playing hard to deliver outstanding results.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic side of discovery for website engagements: intake of client needs, audience and market research, competitive analysis, analytics review, and stakeholder input that inform what we build and why.
- Understand a client’s customers: who they are, what they need from the organization, and where those needs meet the client’s business goals and objectives.
- Develop digital strategies that connect client business goals to website decisions, including audience definition, user journeys, conversion paths, and prioritized recommendations.
- Provide clear direction to design, content, and development teams through the project: what the site needs to accomplish, for whom, and how success will be measured.
- Audit existing websites and digital ecosystems (analytics, SEO/GEO performance, content effectiveness, conversion funnels) and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Help clients land on the KPIs that matter to their business, then build the measurement framework behind them: analytics and tagging requirements, dashboards, and reporting that tie website performance to those numbers.
- Shape and document information architecture, user flows, and journey maps in collaboration with UX and design, grounded in research rather than assumption.
- Understand and help plan SEO/GEO strategy for new builds and redesigns, including keyword and search-intent research, migration and redirect planning, and on-page optimization guidance.
- Translate strategic direction and discovery findings into clear and complete requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, organized within a prioritized backlog.
- Develop documentation that supports alignment among stakeholders and BizStream teams, and validate that requirements align with client goals and are approved by relevant stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted client advocate and advisor, representing client needs to the BizStream team and helping clients understand recommendations, constraints, and next steps.
- Guide post-launch optimization: monitor user behavior, identify friction in key journeys, recommend and evaluate improvements, and help clients grow the value of their site over time.
- Present strategic recommendations to stakeholders with clarity and confidence, articulating trade-offs, risks, and expected impact.
- Support sales and scoping by contributing to pitches, proposals, and estimates for strategy engagements.
- Engage BizStream subject-matter experts (content strategy, technical, QA, accessibility) at the right moments in discovery, planning, and post-launch work.
- Stay current on the evolving search and digital landscape, including AI-driven search behavior, and proactively bring new ideas to clients and the team.
Requirements
- 4+ years in digital strategy, web strategy, or digital marketing strategy, ideally in an agency or consulting setting.
- Demonstrated experience setting direction on website builds or redesigns from discovery through launch.
- Experience producing user journeys, sitemaps, information architecture, and requirements documentation that design and development teams can execute against.
- Strong analytics fluency (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, heatmapping or session-recording tools) and a track record of turning data into decisions.
- Working knowledge of SEO/GEO strategy, including search-intent research and site migration considerations.
- Solid grounding in UX principles, information architecture, personas, and journey mapping.
- Ability to define KPIs that connect to business strategy, build practical measurement plans clients can actually use, and recommend changes based on what the data shows.
- Strong facilitation skills for workshops, stakeholder interviews, and strategy presentations.
- Familiarity with CRO and experimentation tools (A/B testing platforms, Hotjar, or similar).
- Clear, organized documentation of strategy deliverables that design, content, and development teams can execute against.
- Comfortable using AI-powered tools to support daily work such as research, analysis, synthesis, and documentation.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, relevance, and bias.
- Willingness to continuously experiment with and adopt new AI-driven tools that improve individual and team workflows.
- Strong self-management skills, including the ability to take ownership of work, prioritize, and move initiatives forward across multiple clients.
- Consultative mindset with curiosity, active listening, and thoughtful questioning to clarify ambiguity and uncover root needs.
- Experience working in an agency or consulting setting.
- Experience working with a CMS (Kentico, Kontent.ai, Storyblok, WordPress, or similar).
- Familiarity with e-commerce strategy and best practices.
- Familiarity with campaign strategy and paid media, and how they complement organic search and outreach.
- Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (HubSpot or similar).
- Familiarity with WCAG standards.
- Familiarity with Jira.
