Digital RF Systems Engineer
About the role
The Digital RF Systems Engineer will lead the characterization, validation, integration, and performance optimization of RF and Digital Beamforming (DBF) hardware used within customer terminals and satellite communication systems. This role combines RF engineering, system integration, test development, and automation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute RF and DBF device characterization and validation plans, including definition of test methodologies, measurement setups, and performance criteria.
- Perform RF measurements and analyze results to evaluate device functionality, performance, and compliance with system requirements.
- Support hardware bring-up, integration, and verification activities across device and system-level platforms, partnering closely with hardware, systems, modem, and software engineering teams.
- Drive root cause analysis and troubleshooting of performance issues discovered during validation and integration efforts.
- Develop Python-based automation tools for instrument control, test execution, data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting.
- Improve test efficiency, repeatability, and scalability through automation and process optimization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in RF characterization, validation, design verification, or RF test engineering.
- Hands-on experience working in RF laboratory environments with industry-standard test equipment.
- Strong understanding of RF measurement techniques, communication systems, and hardware validation methodologies.
- Experience developing device characterization plans, test strategies, and validation procedures.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, data analysis, and instrument control.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and system integration challenges.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with phased-array antennas, beamforming systems, or Digital Beamforming (DBF) technologies.
- Background in modem development, wireless communications, or satellite communication systems.
- Familiarity with DSP concepts, communication theory, and advanced RF architectures.
- Experience supporting system bring-up, production validation, and large-scale hardware deployments.
Skills
- Expertise with RF laboratory instrumentation, including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNAs), signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters, RF switching systems, and calibration equipment.
- Strong understanding of RF communication architectures and signal chains, including transmit and receive path components such as modems, DSP blocks, DACs/ADCs, mixers, filters, LNAs, power amplifiers, and antenna interfaces.
- Experience designing measurement setups, developing validation methodologies, interpreting RF performance data, and establishing pass/fail criteria.
- Ability to understand device-level behavior and assess system-level performance impacts.
- Experience developing Python-based tools for automated testing, data processing, visualization, and reporting.
