About the role
Jemba9 is a space industry start-up founded in the spring of 2024. We are developing payloads and components in half-the-schedule at half-the-cost by adapting proven terrestrial designs to be space-worthy. This lowers NRE and risk, enables a prototype on day 1, and leverages established development and test ecosystems. Our adaptation flow utilizes proprietary engineering and analysis tools to:
- accelerate design adaptation from one domain to another (D->D*)
- reduce the time and labor hours required to produce assurance artifacts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and verification of digital electronics modules for space applications, including but not limited to:
- Processing systems
- Hardware accelerators
- Data routing
- Data storage units
- Avionics modules
- Digital communications electronics
- Execute the full engineering lifecycle:
- Requirements capture and traceability
- Concept development and trade studies
- Component selection, Schematic capture and layout instruction preparation
- Timing analysis, circuit analysis, and other relevant design analyses
- Design release, integration, and verification at test
- Prepare for and present at internal and external design reviews, ensuring technical readiness and compliance with requirements.
- Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to support component selection, procurement, build, and assembly readiness.
- Engage directly with customers during design reviews, requirement clarifications, and technical discussions.
- Generate and maintain engineering documentation, analysis reports, and verification results.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of experience designing digital electronics for space or aerospace applications.
- Demonstrated experience delivering multiple TRL-9 space-qualified designs.
- Proficiency in EDA tools for schematic design and layout preparation.
- Strong expertise in timing analysis, circuit analysis, and verification testing.
- Hands-on experience preparing and executing design reviews with customers.
- Proven ability to support supply chain, manufacturing, and test functions.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with radiation-tolerant design practices and parts selection.
- Knowledge of space qualification standards (e.g., IPC, NASA, MIL, ECSS).
- Experience fault tolerance, redundancy, and high-reliability design practices.
- Strong system-level thinking and ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with lab testing of digital hardware and systems.
Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
- Equity participation through incentive stock options
- Health/medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off (PTO) benefits
