Purpose
Monticello is looking for a creative, curious, and technically skilled Digital Media Producer to help tell the stories of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello through video, photography, and digital storytelling. In this hands-on role, you’ll create compelling content for marketing campaigns, social media, advertising, and institutional initiatives—capturing everything from sweeping mountaintop views and behind-the-scenes preservation work to educational programs, special events, and national celebrations.
Responsibilities
- Films and edits a wide range of video content to support marketing, advertising, and programming initiatives.
- Leads the production of single- and multi-camera presentations by exercising creative and technical control of video and audio recording.
- Plays a key role in planning and scheduling productions, including determining equipment, crew, talent, and location requirements.
- Produces both long-form and short-form content across a variety of aspect ratios and deliverables for web, social, broadcast, and internal platforms.
- Supports photography production in support of Monticello’s marketing, communications, retail, development, programmatic, and operational efforts to ensure comprehensive visual coverage beyond video needs.
- Maintains and actively uses an FAA Part 107 certification to pilot drones for videographic and photographic projects.
- Helps develop creative briefs, shot lists, and editorial strategies/calendars aligned with marketing and communications priorities.
- Prepares, uploads, names, tags, categorizes video and photo assets in MediaValet in alignment with Monticello’s style guide and metadata standards.
- Maintains files, graphics, project assets, and records of expenses, supplies, and associated production costs.
- Communicates with Monticello staff and outside vendors regarding asset standards, transfer protocols, and content requirements.
- Collaborates with the Director of Marketing & Communications to identify gaps in visual coverage of Monticello’s house, gardens, grounds, farm, retail operations, events, tours, educational initiatives, and preservation efforts.
- Further develops Monticello’s marketing image and media management system to improve access, organization, and public engagement.
- Ensures production equipment remains in good working order and technologically current by researching, evaluating, and recommending purchases as needed.
- Carries, transports, sets up, and breaks down production equipment.
- Lifts and carries up to 25 pounds of equipment including cameras, tripods, lights, mixers, microphones, and related tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Film, Television Production, Electronic Media, or related field, or significant professional experience in lieu of degree.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects at any given time.
- Exceptional communication skills; the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy, collaboration, and problem solving.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- High-level computer skills. Proficient with latest versions of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to learn and master event software.
- Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and web design are preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational and budget management skills.
