About the role

This position involves supporting public safety through the use of digital forensic skills. The role focuses on finding and understanding electronic evidence that supports criminal investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Evidence Handling: Receive and manage digital equipment and media from criminal investigations while preserving original data.
  • Technical Examination: Conduct examinations of electronic devices and use forensic tools to identify and gather case-related information.
  • Case Support: Assist experienced examiners with complex digital evidence involving deleted files, encrypted data, hidden information, or unusual systems.
  • Field Assistance: Support investigators at field scenes by helping to identify, collect, and secure electronic equipment.
  • Network Maintenance: Provide assistance with network accounts, security updates, and infrastructure used by examiners and investigators.
  • Expert Testimony: Prepare reports and assist with presenting digital evidence and procedures during court proceedings.

Qualifications

  • One year as a Digital Forensic Examiner 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence and a bachelor’s degree in digital forensics, cyber forensics, forensic science, computer science, or any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence.

Special Requirements

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must obtain and maintain the Certified Video Technician Certification Levels 1 and 2 within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • You must obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

  • You must submit a Report of Medications for screening by the Pennsylvania State Police Medical Officer.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
