Job Summary
First Alert 7 / KOSA – the top-rated, long-time news leader in Odessa-Midland, TX – is looking for a Digital Content Producer to join our news team. You’ll be responsible for creating, writing, and producing content for our website, news/weather apps, streaming channel, and social media platforms. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling on a range of digital platforms, including text, images, audio, and video, and will demonstrate a competitive, energetic personality focused on winning against the competition.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Producing digital content including writing story briefs based upon public records, news releases, and desktop reporting.
- Collaborating with anchors, multimedia journalists (MMJ’s) and newscast producers to publish content on appropriate digital channels.
- Paying attention to breaking news including regional, national and international news and using resources from Gray Media and others to appropriately cover those stories.
- Understanding station and corporate-provided research to contribute to optimizing the station’s digital platforms and growing the audiences for those platforms.
- Monitoring newswires, social media and email for story ideas and updates.
- Assist in copy editing with special attention to journalistic standards, ethical decision-making and legal guidelines.
- Working flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field; two years of comparable journalism experience also acceptable.
- Demonstrate examples of writing and editing experience using AP style guidelines. (Can include traditional broadcast and/or digital or social content).
- Demonstrate knowledge of local, regional, national and international current events.
- Demonstrate experience working in a detail-oriented, organized manner, the ability to work independently and to effectively multi-task in a deadline environment.
- Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of content management systems; previous experience with the ARC CMS preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with standard workplace software including Microsoft applications for email and word processing; previous experience with ENPS, EDIUS, VizRT and BitCentral newsroom systems is preferred.
