POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Hybrid.Monday - Friday.Location: Hartford.Part Time, 34 hours per week.First Shift, between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.Hybrid; the schedule will include the ability to telework. THE ROLE The Digitization and Digital Collections Services Unit (DDCS) at the Connecticut State Library (CSL) is seeking a Digital Collections Librarian (Librarian 1 - State Library). This position plays a key role in helping CSL preserve and provide access to the agency’s significant historic and cultural resources. As demand for online access to library collections continues to grow, the Digital Collections Librarian will support the ongoing expansion of digitization and digital collections initiatives that contribute to the long-term preservation of cultural resources and enhance public access to information. Working under the direction of the Unit Head, the Digital Collections Librarian performs a variety of tasks related to managing CSL materials in digital collections systems. These tasks include but are not limited to: creating metadata records for digitized materials, following institutional guidelines and metadata standards, including the Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS); ingesting digitized materials into CSL’s digital collections; coordinating with other units to ensure the discoverability of digitized content; participating in metadata cleanup and normalization projects by reviewing existing records, correcting inconsistencies, updating controlled vocabulary terms, and ensuring compliance with metadata standards and institutional guidelines; helping to promote the work of DDCS through writing and editing web pages, creating and updating research guides, and proposing content ideas for social media; maintaining unit policies, standards, and workflows for metadata and ingest; and using digital tools to optimize and automate workflow processes. The successful candidate shall possess a high attention to detail, the ability to work independently and manage their time effectively, a familiarity with digitization workflows, the ability to learn new technology, and strong communication skills. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs professional library duties in any of the following areas: cataloging, interlibrary loan, reference, bibliographic services and collection management of books, serial publications, computer files, documents, audiovisual and other materials;Assists patrons in locating and obtaining materials;Furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules and services;Explains and assists in use of reference sources, catalogs, indexes and automated data bases;Describes or demonstrates procedures for searching catalog files;Searches catalog files and shelves to locate information;Assembles and arranges displays of books and other library materials;Maintains reference and circulation materials;Answers correspondence on special reference subjects;May compile subject bibliographies;May select, order, catalog and classify materials;May review and update records retention and disposition schedules for state agencies;May plan and direct or carry out special projects;May operate a small law library;May train assigned staff;May conduct workshops;May serve as liaison to library groups and organizations;May compile reports and statistics;Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications - General Experience A Master's degree in library science or information science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association. Preferred Qualifications Experience creating metadata records for digital collections. Experience working with library descriptive metadata standards. Experience working with a digital preservation repository. Experience developing or maintaining institutional metadata guidelines. Experience creating website or social media content.
