Digital Collection Development Librarian

Broward College in sunny South Florida is one of the largest state colleges in the country, with an enrollment of approximately 50,000 students, supported by 4,000 employees. The College was rated as a best-in-state employer by Forbes and a top 10 community college by the Aspen Institute. The college invites applications for a full-time contract-eligible teaching position beginning in August 2026.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will share the college’s commitment to educating its students and meeting the college’s responsibility to the educational attainment and economic well-being of its student population and the surrounding community. This is a yearly (213-day) contract position.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage workflows for digitizing physical materials (manuscripts, photographs, audio/video, rare books) in accordance with national standards.
• Ensure discoverability and accessibility to digital collections including metadata workflows, creation and maintenance of accurate metadata records, overseeing access to the library’s digital resources and platforms, and guaranteeing interoperability of metadata between platforms.
• Develop strategies for capturing, ingesting, and preserving born-digital records (e.g., emails, website crawls, digital documents, social media archives).
• Demonstrate mastery of the specific discipline, a deep commitment to the college mission of fostering student success, academic achievement, and persistence, technological competence, and the ability to engage students in ways that facilitate learning.
• Employ teaching methods to accommodate various levels of academic preparation and incorporate appropriate and engaging technology across different modalities of instruction.
• Facilitate the needs of different learners across programs by implementing responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging students.
• Examine and adapt instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support students.
• Engage in student consultation, course preparation, review of course outlines, and preparation of course syllabi.
• Provide prompt and constructive support to students through regular office hours and timely feedback on assessments and activities.
• Respond promptly to student emails.
• Adhere to all reporting deadlines such as grade processing, enrollment verification, syllabus submission, and textbook adoption.
• Participate in service to the college and its community, including curriculum development, review and assessment of student learning outcomes, shared academic decision-making, faculty organizations, and departmental course and program reviews.
• Engage in continued professional development, such as attending educational and disciplinary conferences.

Requirements

• MLS from an ALA-accredited institution (required).
• Post-MLS academic library reference experience (preferred).
• Demonstrated evidence of successful contribution towards digitization initiatives and collection development activities (preferred).
• High level of computer literacy and a commitment to library service and outreach in a diversely populated community.
• High level of digital literacy and a commitment to teaching.
• Office hours are required; some schedules may require evening and/or weekend hours.

Pay

Salary range: $61,417.18 - $65,839.21 (commensurate with education and experience). This position may be eligible for additional compensation based on teaching load and supplemental assignments.

Schedule

• Full-time, regular position.
• Monday - Friday with some weekends/varies.
• 37.5 hours per week.
• First shift.
