Dietitian-Diabetes Specialist, Norton Children's Maternal Fetal Medicine

Responsibilities

• Serves as a leading provider of diabetes care and education within the Norton Healthcare System.
• Provides direct patient care and support, including management of insulin and anti-hyperglycemic agents under approved policies and protocols.
• Manages patients’ routine diabetes care through advanced diabetes technologies (glucose meters, interstitial glucose sensors, subcutaneous insulin infusion pumps).
• Delivers comprehensive diabetes care and education covering nutrition, advanced diabetes management, acute/chronic complication management, lifestyle and behavior modification, and social determinants of health.
• Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team, applying age-appropriate principles for patients from infant to geriatric.
• Collaborates with organizational departments, committees, and external programs to provide health and wellness options.
• Coordinates and administers diabetes care through on-site programs, classes, and education for patients and families in ambulatory, emergency department, and hospital-based settings (in-person or remote).
• Trains and guides dietitian-diabetes specialist team members, participates in program research and development, and trains staff and providers.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in a specialty area.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• State Dietitian license (must obtain Kentucky/Indiana licensure within 60 days of hire).
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (National).
• One of the following certifications:
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)

Desired qualifications include a Master’s degree and one of the following: Certified Diabetes Educator (National), Licensed Diabetes Educator (State), Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, or Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.
