About the Role

Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to all patients according to the Nutrition Care Process in adherence to Policies and Procedures. Serves as a nutrition resource to hospital staff, BMHCS, and the community; assists in the direction of clinical support staff by coordinating and providing leadership. The role is responsible for clinical services at BMH 24 hours/day, 7 days/week under the general direction of the Director, Assistant Director, or Designee. Some overtime and callback may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and assesses pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients and initiates the Nutrition Care Process in a systematic and continuous manner in compliance with established standards.
  • Develops and selects appropriate teaching materials and methods; assesses the learner to educate pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients/clients, hospital staff, and the general public with timely completion and assurance of understanding.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams and committees to communicate patients' nutritional needs and issues, positively affecting quality patient care outcomes.
  • Contributes to the development and process of Performance Improvement and quality initiative indicators to enhance nutrition care, patient and cafeteria food service, and budgetary performance.
  • Exhibits a friendly and professional appearance and conduct when interacting with healthcare providers, workers, patients, and visitors, adhering to hospital service standards.
  • Completes assigned goals and performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of a program meeting requirements leading to registration by The Commission on Registration of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (minimum required).
  • Registration (or registry-eligible) by the Commission on Registration of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Registry-eligible personnel must obtain registration (Registered Dietitian status) within one (1) year to retain employment.
  • Licensure as an LDN by the State of Mississippi is required prior to the start date.
  • Basic computer literacy skills (minimum required).
  • Knowledge of BMH protocols and methods, typically acquired through a 2-4 week orientation.
