About the role
Join our dedicated inpatient healthcare team as a Clinical Registered Dietitian at our main hospital campus. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive nutritional care of hospitalized patients across their entire lifespan, including performing nutritional assessments, designing individualized care plans, and delivering vital patient education. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary units to provide high-quality medical nutrition therapy that optimizes patient recovery and clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree and/or Master’s Degree from an accredited College or University with a major in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related science.
- Active Registered Dietitian (RD) credential or direct registration-eligibility with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) / American Dietetic Association.
- Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills with a proven ability to document clinical practices clearly in medical records.
- Demonstrated baseline competency in time management and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced healthcare team.
Preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year of active, direct inpatient hospital experience operating as a clinical dietitian.
- Proven experience conducting age-specific assessments across the full lifespan (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Essential Functions
- Formulates, implements, and evaluates comprehensive inpatient nutritional care plans containing clinical data reflective of patients’ exact nutritional requirements relative to their age and medical condition.
- Applies specialized knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan to render safe, age-specific nutrition care and counseling to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Provides frontline education to hospitalized patients and family members regarding therapeutic diets, and proactively identifies and addresses critical drug-and-nutrient interactions.
- Accurately documents and charts appropriate nutrition histories, clinical interventions, and care pathways directly inside the patient’s permanent electronic medical record in a timely manner.
- Participates actively in interdisciplinary hospital rounds, coordinates with diet office staff to resolve patient data concerns, and adjusts therapeutic meal patterns in the Health Touch database daily.
- Attends clinical in-services and continuing education programs to maintain active registration status, and coordinates teaching experiences or clinical tracking for rotating dietetic students.
- Conducts regular meal rounds to evaluate food safety and service quality, tracks department performance improvement data, and compiles accurate monthly operational logs for the Clinical Nutrition Manager.
- Maintains strict standard precautions, complies with all safety and infection control protocols, and provides annual educational in-services to clerks, technicians, and other medical professionals.
