About the role
Develops student-centered menus that meet federal, state, and local nutrition standards while supporting departmental fiscal goals.
Responsibilities
- Implements MSDE and USDA-compliant menus in collaboration with the Manager of Menu Planning & Procurement.
- Leads recipe development, standardization, and nutrient analysis using district menu management software.
- Plans and updates breakfast, lunch, supper, and snack menus to ensure compliance across all meal programs.
- Conducts federally required nutrient analyses of planned and served menus.
- Maintains product data in ordering software and supports weekly ordering for cafeterias.
- Aids in researching, evaluating, and recommending new food products, menus, and school meal program options.
- Works with the Menu Planning & Procurement Manager to communicate menu guidance to cafeterias and conducts school visits to assess food quality, preparation, and customer acceptance.
- Develops and implements individualized diet plans for students with documented dietary restrictions in collaboration with families, healthcare providers, school nurses, and school-based staff.
- Completes required annual USDA training hours.
- Maintains accurate records of all special dietary accommodations and related communications.
- Supports policy development related to special diets, menu standards, and student wellness.
- Precepts dietetic interns and collaborates with internal teams and school-based staff to advance program goals.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains audit documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and readiness for internal and external audits.
- Serves as a nutrition and wellness subject-matter expert and represents the department in meetings, presentations, and wellness initiatives.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education or equivalent relevant professional experience required.
- Hold or acquire Maryland Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD eligible and registered within 6 months of employment.
- At least three years of relevant full-time professional experience.
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Skill in researching, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
Pay
Maximum Salary: $139,044.00
Minimum Salary: $91,707.00
