Dietary Cook PRN

About the Role

As a Dietary Cook at MercyOne, you will provide nutritious meals for patients as well as meals for employees, visitors, and special events. You will prepare high-quality, nutritional, and taste-appealing meals, serve necessary foods for meals in proper serving sizes according to diet orders, and discuss food choices with patients. You will also perform routine cleaning duties to ensure sanitary standards of the department and facility are met, promote a customer service philosophy, and contribute to the efficient operation of the department.

Responsibilities

• Prepare high-quality, nutritional, and taste-appealing meals for patients, employees, visitors, and special events.
• Serve food in proper serving sizes according to diet orders.
• Discuss food choices with patients.
• Perform routine cleaning duties to maintain sanitary standards of the department and facility.
• Promote a customer service philosophy that meets and exceeds patient needs.
• Adjust cooking times based on the number of servings.
• Set work priorities within schedules and work cooperatively or independently as needed.
• Work in various temperature environments.

Requirements

• ServSafe certification preferred.
• Knowledge and training in cooking and basic nutrition.
• Basic cooking and measuring techniques.
• Ability to understand food preparation, modified diets, and sanitation after orientation.
• Ability to follow directions and instructions.
• Ability to work cooperatively and independently.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Schedule

PRN - Hours and shifts will vary (rotating shift).

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital providing vital lifesaving services to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas. The emergency department is staffed 24/7 with board-certified physicians and advanced-level practitioners. The facility is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
