About the role
MercyOne Dubuque is seeking a Dietary Assistant to join their team. The position involves completing and processing patient menus and nourishments, ensuring compliance with diet orders, and assisting with patient tray and nourishment delivery.
Responsibilities
- Using computer software systems to ensure patient safety with dietary restrictions and accuracy of meal tickets
- Absorb and process patient menu selections from patients in compliance with diet order
- Generate patient meal tickets, patient listings, and requested patient reports using dietary software
- Process and record early/late trays, guest trays, Bereavement and Peace Trays for patients, guests, and staff
- Answer telephone using good customer service skills and accurately communicate messages
- Maintain schedules and arrange outpatient appointments for Clinical Dietitian staff
- Accurately calculate patient carbohydrate intake as ordered
- Interpret information and reports generated from dietary software for verification of patient menus
- Use dietary software program to assure patient safety and meals are served in compliance with current diet order

- Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, food safety, and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of diet restrictions and allergies
- Able to work in a healthcare environment
- Skill in operating office equipment
- Skill in utilizing a personal computer and related software
- Able to communicate clear, concise, and effectively with staff, patients, and the public
- Able to follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Able to collect data, keep accurate records, and prepare reports
- Able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, principles of food safety, and sanitation
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
