About the role

The Dietary Aide II performs advanced food service tasks, including patient meal preparation, nourishment delivery, and maintaining cleanliness in work areas. This position involves serving meals to patients, stocking supplies, assisting in food preparation, and cross-training in other cafeteria duties while ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve patient food trays and deliver nourishment to patient care areas in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare salads, portion food items, and assist in setting up and serving meals to cafeteria patrons.
  • Cut and stock desserts in the dessert area for patient and cafeteria service.
  • Set up and break down the doctors' dining room daily and prepare it for meal service.
  • Stock workstations and ensure all supplies needed for daily operations are available.
  • Safely and correctly use cleaning chemicals according to department standards.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks, including dishwashing, pot washing, and custodial duties, to maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and food service areas.
  • Complete assigned tasks in the pots and pans area and dish room according to job flow standards.
  • Deliver and pick up food carts to and from patient care areas.
  • Follow safety and sanitation standards while cleaning work areas, equipment, and food service stations.
  • Work assigned tasks in the cafeteria during special functions or events, as needed.
  • Cross-train in various cafeteria positions to assist in other areas during busy service periods.
  • Participate in departmental training sessions and staff meetings to stay updated on procedures.
  • Assist with food preparation for special events and other hospital functions.
  • Support the cafeteria team with customer service during peak hours.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform a variety of tasks while on the job.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospitality food service environment is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work efficiently and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with other staff members.
  • Attention to detail in following food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, handle food carts, and perform cleaning tasks.
  • Willingness to cross-train in various food service roles to support the team as needed.

No formal licenses or certifications required.

Physical demands

  • Stand: 80% of the workday (up to 70 minutes consecutively).
  • Walk: 40% of the workday (up to 45 minutes consecutively).
  • Lift: 20% of the workday (up to 2 minutes consecutively).
  • Lifting requirements:
    • Up to 10 lbs: Continuously
    • Up to 20 lbs: Frequently
    • Up to 35 lbs: Occasionally
  • Carry trays of food, stacks of dishes, cans of food, and boxes of supplies; occasionally lift something shoulder high.
  • Repetitive use of hands for simple grasp (normal weight less than 1 lb often), pushing and pulling (up to 200 lbs occasionally), fine manipulation (controls on equipment, sharp knives, writing).
  • Exposure to wet and slippery surfaces.

    • Video Display Terminals: Occasionally
    • Blood and Body Fluids: Occasional possibility to saliva and very rarely blood and/or vomit.
    • TB or Airborne Pathogens: Frequent visits to patient floors, occasional visits to patient rooms.
  • Sensory requirements:
    • Speech: Must be able to talk to staff and patients to complete assigned tasks.
    • Vision: Needed to see food being served and cleanliness of work areas.
    • Smell: Helpful to note presence of electrical/fire hazard.
    • Hearing: Must be able to hear co-workers, customers, and management.
    • Touch: Needed to handle dishes, silverware, etc., without dropping.

Pay

USD $16.49 - USD $19.94 /Hr
