Diet Clerk, PT Days
About the role
The Diet Clerk functions as support in the nutritional care of patients. Responsibilities include processing diet orders, obtaining patient menu selections via the CBord computer system, correcting menus to ensure selections meet physician-prescribed diet orders, checking tray lines for accuracy, and communicating effectively to ensure high-quality food service to patients.
PIH Health is a nonprofit, regional healthcare network serving approximately 3 million residents in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and the San Gabriel Valley region. The network includes hospitals, outpatient medical offices, a multispecialty physician group, home healthcare, hospice care, and specialized services in heart, cancer, digestive health, orthopedics, women’s health, urgent care, and emergency services.
Responsibilities
- Process diet orders, tube feedings, diet changes, and NPO orders accurately.
- Obtain and correct patient menu selections via the CBord computer system to align with physician-prescribed diet orders.
- Check tray lines to ensure meal trays meet prescribed diet orders.
- Communicate effectively to provide high-quality food service to patients.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Ability to speak, write, and read English and perform simple math.
- Minimum 6 months of experience working in a hospital diet office.
- Knowledge of modified diets (e.g., Renal, Dysphagia, Controlled Carbohydrate, Cardiac, Sodium Controlled).
- Completion of college-level classes in diet therapy, nutrition through the life cycle, or nutrition may substitute for experience.
- Intermediate computer skills; prior experience with Computrition, CBord, or other computerized diet office systems is helpful.
Skills
- Business telephone etiquette; articulate and professional communication.
- Customer service and guest relations skills.
- Knowledge of normal and modified diets.
Pay
$23.00–$29.90 per hour
