Diesel Technician

About the role

The Diesel Technician position at Veit is responsible for completing repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy duty trucks and trailers. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the repair of heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers.
• Diagnoses engine mechanical and fuel systems issues on trucks, including engines, drive train components, hydraulic systems, air, and electric systems.
• Utilizes diagnostic software and computer systems to diagnose issues with electronic engines on trucks.
• Utilizes tools for repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
• Repairs 12-volt D.C. electrical systems on trucks.
• Fabricates and repairs equipment using welding equipment.
• Performs technician work on heavy equipment.
• Maintains a clean and safe shop environment.
• Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.
• Works on other projects or duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components.
• Experience using diagnostic software and welding experience.
• Ability to adhere to all safety rules, policies, and regulations, and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities and situations.
• Able to effectively communicate with coworkers and management, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently, assuring repair decisions are made utilizing appropriate experience and tasks are completed and in a timely manner.
• Willingness to join the union (Local 49).
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle record requirements.
• This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components.
• Experience using diagnostic software.
• Welding experience.

Schedule

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, bend knees, stretch arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear. Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds. Frequently required to work in various physical positions while working on equipment. Work environment includes exposure to moving machinery, odors, and dust. Often exposed to environment conditions, loud noises, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Most often in a typical shop environment.
