Diesel Mechanic Technician

About the role

Midwest Transit Equipment seeks a Full Time Diesel Mechanic for the Detroit, MI area. The position involves servicing and maintaining diesel-powered buses, including major overhauls of engines and transmissions, and adhering to DOT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Servicing of gasoline and diesel powered buses from basic maintenance to full vehicle service
• Diagnosing mechanical defects and implementing a preventive maintenance program
• Major overhaul of engines and transmissions
• Service and maintenance of brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems, and wheelchair lifts
• Service and maintenance of vehicle air conditioning units
• Inspection and repair of school buses according to DOT requirements
• Keeping records of time and materials used
• Utilizing and maintaining working knowledge of all manufacturer diagnostic software and portals, such as Navistar
• Knowledge of all products serviced by the company, including Navistar IC Bus and supplier products

Requirements

• 4+ years medium duty bus experience, International Truck/Bus preferred
• 100% certification for all manufacturer training requirements, including Cummins, Navistar, and Braun
• Own set of tools
• Knowledge of pupil transportation codes and laws (DOT inspections)
• CDL Class B license with air brake endorsement
• A/C certification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide exemplary customer service
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must pass a drug test
