Diesel Mechanic Technician

Ryder is hiring a Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Roseville, Michigan, offering a stable career with weekly pay and excellent benefits. Technicians work on heavy‑duty vehicles using Ryder’s state‑of‑the‑art diagnostics and tools.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification preferred; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications also preferred
• Basic hand tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two (2) or more years of combined classroom training and work experience preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CLASS A) preferred; must be able to obtain CDL within six months after hire
• Must pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years)
• Some positions may require additional screening (employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check, road test, badging, or customer‑specific background requirements)
