About the role

Since 1938, Hunter Truck has been a family-owned Peterbilt dealership known for its commitment to integrity, teamwork, and outstanding service. We are currently seeking experienced Diesel Mechanic Technicians for our daylight shift.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform minor to advanced repairs as outlined on the repair order.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and complete repairs as directed by a supervisor.
  • Aid other technicians on major repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag warranty or customer-requested parts.
  • Examine vehicles for additional safety or service needs.
  • Document all work performed and recommended, including warranty information.
  • Road test vehicles as required or refer to test technician.
  • Keep work area, service truck, and customer vehicles clean and organized.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local regulations, and adhere to Hunter Truck safety policies.

Expert to Master Levels

  • Handle complex mechanical and electrical issues with minimal supervision.
  • Performs electrical and/or air conditioning system repairs.
  • Performs major component repairs and/or overhauls.

Requirements

  • Vocational/technical school graduate with a minimum of three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Experience in engine and driveline troubleshooting.
  • Experience in electrical repair and air conditioning systems.
  • Component overhaul experience and/or specialty (A/C or electrical) experience.
  • Ability to obtain passing grade during Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and/or vendor training.
  • Good supply of most hand tools to complete most repairs.

Qualifications

  • Master Level: Vocational/technical school graduate with a minimum five (5) years related experience.
  • Master Level: Experience in engine and driveline troubleshooting; electrical repair; air conditioning systems; component overhaul experience and/or air specialty (A/C electrical).
  • Master Level: Hold and maintain the required certifications for each area of expertise.
  • Master Level: Good supply of all tools needed to complete all repairs.

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engine operation.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and repair tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair engine issues with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow and lead others in safety protocols.

Pay

$27.00 - $38.00/hour based on experience. Expert and Master-Level Diesel Technicians will also receive sign-on bonuses of up to $5,000.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing and use of hands.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs, frequently up to 100 lbs, and occasionally more than 100 lbs.
  • Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
