About the role

This is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt position. Diesel Mechanics perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on class 6 through 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment. You will troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues, perform HVAC system repairs, and ensure compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
  • Inspect and repair equipment, including work in, on, or under vehicles
  • Repair or rebuild equipment systems and components
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues, then perform necessary repairs
  • Perform HVAC system repairs
  • Abide by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA, and other regulations
  • Conduct safety inspections and prepare documentation
  • Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity
  • Move trailers using a hostler in all weather conditions
  • Enter job times and parts on repair orders
  • Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
  • Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized
  • Interact with operations and shop management

Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 75 lbs.
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven or slippery conditions
  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel
  • Work outdoors in inclement weather and on non-climate-controlled loading docks

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance
  • Obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS, or equivalent)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, and ARC) and mechanical skills
  • Own basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Brake inspection qualified as defined in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
  • Vehicle inspection qualified as defined in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Preferred qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
  • Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
  • Previous or current ASE certifications
  • Diesel tech school diploma
  • Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics, and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians
  • Able to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems

Pay

Experienced Technicians can earn up to $42.11/hour, including Master Certification and night shift differential.

Schedule

Night Shift, 10:00pm–6:30am, Monday–Friday.
