Transdev in Williamsburg, VA is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our fleet.

About the role

As a Diesel Mechanic with Transdev, you will maintain and repair Gillig, New Flyer, Orion transit buses, Ford, Chevy, Dodge light trucks, and vans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including brakes, suspensions, engines, drivetrains, transmissions, and other repairs.
  • Ensure work orders are completed accurately.
  • Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Class B CDL with an Air Brake endorsement is required.
  • Virginia State inspectors license is highly preferred.
  • At least 3–5 years of automotive and diesel transit bus or heavy truck maintenance & repair employment experience or a combination of technical school education & experience.
  • Possess a mechanic’s tool set.
  • ASE certifications are preferred; must be willing to participate in the company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided).
  • Subject to DOT drug testing; DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements

  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions—100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
  • Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.

  • Competitive compensation: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour, plus $0.25 per hour for each ASE certification you possess or obtain.
