Diesel Mechanic

Our client, a leader in the waste management industry, is dedicated to providing efficient waste collection services. Maintaining a fleet of well-functioning vehicles is critical to their success. The Diesel Mechanic will play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of the company's fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel-powered vehicles, including trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify the root cause of problems.
  • Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical systems, and other vehicle components as needed.
  • Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the life of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance work comply with safety regulations and company policies; maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Identify and order necessary parts for repairs, working closely with the parts department to ensure timely availability of components.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used, labor hours, and any issues identified.
  • Work closely with the Fleet Maintenance Manager and other team members to prioritize work orders and ensure vehicles are ready for use.
  • Respond to breakdowns or urgent repair needs, providing timely and effective solutions to get vehicles back in operation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in a fleet or heavy equipment environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in diesel mechanics or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and vehicle repair procedures.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and quality in all work performed.
  • ASE certification or equivalent is preferred; a valid CDL is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in a garage or workshop environment, with exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and various weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
