About the role
Gold Star provides feed and nutrition services and commodity trading in the northeastern U.S., primarily to dairies. As feed and commodity specialists, we originate feed for mills, manufacture it to unique customer specifications, and handle logistics for safe, smooth delivery. The Diesel Mechanic collaborates with the repair team to ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently, meeting driver needs and DOT compliance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare work plans after fully scoping vehicle issues.
- Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to offer suitable solutions.
- Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering, and exhausts.
- Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts.
- Conduct field visits for emergency or sudden breakdowns.
- Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
- Complete oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks.
- Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.
- Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and opportunistic curiosity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification and training in diesel engine repair from a vocational school or community college (modules include drive trains, preventive maintenance, inspection, engine architecture, and electronic systems).
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and diesel engine mechanisms.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms.
- Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment.
- Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and relevant electronics.
- Proficiency in diesel engine diagnostic software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Good interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
- CDL Class A or B preferred, though not required.
- Welding skills are a plus.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 75 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in outside weather conditions.
- Exhibit good work habits, including excellent attendance and individual productivity.
