About the Role
Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy-duty diesel equipment and vehicles. This role requires a strong mechanical and technical background, experience with heavy machinery, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, safety-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have industry or dealership experience and proficiency with automotive and engine diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems. This position involves working on diverse equipment including farm machinery, loaders, industrial equipment, excavators, cranes, and tractor-trailers.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, air brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, turbines, pumps, and HVAC systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, shocks & struts replacement, and wheel alignments.
- Fabricate and modify parts using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering techniques as needed.
- Repair and maintain heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial machinery.
- Read schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical or electrical issues.
- Utilize diagnostic tools to identify problems with vehicle systems and implement effective solutions.
- Assist in the assembly and disassembly of equipment for repair or upgrade purposes.
- Perform preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Maintain detailed service records for all repairs performed.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures during all maintenance activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of technical specifications.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in heavy-duty diesel or automotive repair, including one year at the journeyman level in the repair and maintenance of gas- and diesel-powered heavy trucks, road maintenance equipment, and related machinery.
- Experience with schematics reading and troubleshooting complex mechanical or electrical systems.
- Diesel Mechanic certification(s).
- Must possess and maintain a valid GA Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a “P” Endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Dealership experience is highly preferred.
- Prior experience working in a service technician role with customer service skills.
- Degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, or similar field.
Skills
- Proven mechanical experience working with heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, loaders, or farm machinery.
- Strong background in automotive diagnostics and repair of diesel engines.
- Knowledge of transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC systems, and electrical components related to heavy machinery.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Familiarity with new technology.
Work Environment
- Occasionally lift 50 pounds or more.
- Must be able to work with tools on vehicles lifted above head, work in tight spaces, and walk/bend/stand/sit for long periods.
- May experience excessive noise.
- Work indoors and outdoors.
- Schedule may include evening hours, weekends, inclement weather, and holidays.
