Diesel Fleet Trailer Technician

About the role

This role will focus on the upkeep and repair of our trailers. Responsible to inspect, diagnose and perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of diesel semi-trucks and trailers. Maintains adherence to company safety standards and ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Assist in developing the skills of less experienced team members by offering coaching and technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure equipment maintenance is completed on schedule
  • Meet with supervisor/lead to discuss work orders and priorities, proactively identifying any issues or conditions which might affect the operation of the equipment
  • Utilize maintenance systems to ensure timely and accurate documentation of maintenance and repair work performed
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations and laws within assigned areas (i.e. DOT) to ensure shop compliance
  • Prepare and/or complete DOT inspections and related paperwork accurately and timely
  • Effectively collaborate with other departments as appropriate
  • Diagnose and repair trailer ABS systems
  • Replace caliper assemblies and braking components
  • Diagnose and repair electrical system failures
  • Repair trailer suspension and axle assemblies
  • Repair and replace landing gear assemblies
  • Diagnose and repair liftgate hydraulic systems
  • Perform DOT inspections
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation
  • Mentor entry level technicians

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent (GED) (Required)
  • At least 6+ years of working experience in a related field
  • Valid Driver’s License (required)
  • Must provide and maintain essential mechanic tools and toolbox for daily tasks
  • Required to complete SpartanNash certification for safe driving skills for material handling equipment, tractors, and trailers (training provided)

  • Must frequently sit, walk and stand, use hands to handle, grasp, and twist objects, tools, or controls, and use both feet for repetitive movements as in operating foot controls
  • Must frequently walk, talk, crouch, kneel, bend, stoop, twist, and reach with the hands and arms
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance as needed
  • While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
  • Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hour shifts as assigned
  • Travel requirements vary by assignment
