Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conducts diesel engine inspections every 18–24 months on boats having engines rated at 500 horsepower or greater.
  • Reviews and/or prepares Process Control Procedures (PCPs) relating to diesel engine work.
  • Uses technical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot faults and casualties on a variety of diesel engines.
  • Provides assistance in identifying causes for equipment/system failure to the component level.
  • Provides technical assistance and on the job training to active duty maintenance personnel relative to the operation, maintenance, grooming, overhaul, and repair of diesel engines.
  • Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting complete diesel engine repairs/overhauls.
  • Plans tests to evaluate diesel engine performance. Determines test requirements, and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results in order to prepare reports on findings.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.
  • Briefs chain of command on the status of assigned diesel repairs and/or overhauls.
  • Provides written reports for all work accomplished and completed action documentation.
  • Maintains diesel engine inspection schedule, tracking inspection results and reporting results to the maintenance officer.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in general marine propulsion or power generation experience in operations, maintenance, repair, or inspections
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • Graduate of Navy's Diesel Engine Inspector course listed in CeTARS CANTRAC Volume II, Course# A-652-0311, (NEC 4314)
  • Knowledgeable in Navy QA and Planning procedures
  • Knowledgeable in Navy Quality assurance practices and Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) chapters relating to maintenance of diesel engines
  • Possess Basic computer skills
  • Possess effective oral and written communication

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $39.50 to $45.00 Per Hour. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

  • Ability to work in a field environment for extended periods
  • Ability to be able to work in maintenance shop environment
  • Ability to be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be able work in confined spaces of small craft

Travel

Travel to different RMC's or Naval Ship locations may be required. Travel may include extended underway periods and travel outside of the continental United States.
