About the role
The Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic position with the Department of Transportation supports safe and reliable equipment operations. This role involves working with various vehicles and machinery used in maintenance work.
Responsibilities
- Equipment Repair: Repair vehicles, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment used in maintenance operations
- Preventative Work: Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and adjustments on engines and mechanical systems
- Safety Inspections: Perform official state inspections and complete required documentation for assigned vehicles
- Problem Diagnosis: Identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools and determine repair methods
- Tool Operation: Repair and maintain motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, and trimmers
- Workplace Safety: Maintain a clean work area and follow all safety procedures to protect self and coworkers
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License. This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
- Additional Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
