About the role

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Butler County Maintenance Organization, seeks a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to support safe travel throughout the county. This role involves maintaining and repairing various vehicles and equipment to ensure they meet safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Repair: Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and other major components on vehicles and machinery
  • Preventative Maintenance: Complete inspections and service routines to keep equipment in proper working order
  • Diagnostics Work: Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify mechanical and electrical problems
  • Safety Compliance: Carry out official state inspections and confirm that equipment meets safety requirements
  • Field Support: Make minor adjustments and repairs during field operations to ensure safe use of equipment
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and equipment conditions

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Special Requirements: Active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License; Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate; Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification; Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period; Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work will be required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).
