About the role

The Department of Transportation is seeking a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to support safe and dependable equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Repair: Perform repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment, including engine and system components
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine inspections and service tasks to keep equipment in safe operating condition
  • State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all related paperwork
  • Diagnostics Work: Identify mechanical issues using tools and diagnostic equipment and determine required repair methods
  • Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, and report hazards and injuries immediately
  • Field Adjustments: Make necessary adjustments and minor repairs during field operations to support safe use of equipment

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
