Dialysis Patient Care Technician-PCT

About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides care to patients with end-stage renal disease, supporting clinical staff throughout the dialysis treatment process to deliver prescribed treatments. PCTs are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring safe care and the highest quality outcomes for every patient.

Schedule

• Full-time, three 12-hour shifts starting at 4:30am
• Sundays off
• No overnight shifts

Pay

Pay range starts at $18 per hour, depending on healthcare experience. Experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in infection control, risk management, and patient education activities
• Guide new patients through a 120-day education plan
• Obtain and record patient vital signs and machine readings during treatment
• Work under RN supervision to set up and break down the dialysis blood system for treatment
• Insert and remove patient access needles
• Monitor patients during dialysis, document changes, and inform the charge nurse of any concerns
• Calculate patient’s weight loss to reach dry weight
• Determine patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly
• Maintain a professional working relationship, observing patient privacy and rights
• Maintain and track inventory
• Perform laboratory work

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required
• CNA, EMT, medical assistant, CNT, and/or phlebotomy skills desired
• Excellent communication skills
• Desire to collaborate with care teams
• Ability to problem solve

DCI provides a 3-month comprehensive education program, including classroom group sessions and one-on-one skills training. Dialysis experience is not required, and job shadow opportunities are available.
