Dialysis LPN
About the role
The Dialysis Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe, effective, and timely dialysis care under the direction of the Dialysis RN and in accordance with state scope-of-practice regulations. The LPN assists with direct patient care, pretreatment preparation, intradialytic monitoring, documentation, vascular access care within scope, and communication of patient status to the RN, physician, and interdisciplinary team. The LPN supports dialysis operations, infection prevention practices, equipment preparation, and patient education under RN supervision.
Responsibilities
- Aids in direct patient care
- Performs pretreatment preparation
- Maintains intradialytic monitoring
- Documents patient care activities accurately
- Carefully manages vascular access care within scope
- Communicates patient status to relevant healthcare professionals
- Supports dialysis operations
- Enforces infection prevention protocols
- Prepares necessary medical equipment
- Provides patient education
Requirements
- Current LPN license in the state of practice
- Experience in dialysis care preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited LPN program
- Passing scores on the NCLEX-PN exam
