About the Role

The Diagnostic Radiologist position at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is an open continuous announcement, remaining available until September 30, 2026. This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), offering student loan payment reimbursement for those who meet specific eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide a spectrum of image interpretation, image-guided procedures, and patient care services within Diagnostic Radiology.
• Contribute to quality assurance and performance improvement, including oversight of technical quality and education of staff and trainees.
• Review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe and modify exam protocols, and provide oversight of technical image quality.
• Oversee medication administration, radiation and MRI safety, and infection control practices.
• Participate in quality assurance activities such as peer review, protocol review, and performance improvement.
• Interpret imaging exams, generate detailed reports, and consult with providers on exam selection and results.
• Participate in clinical conferences (e.g., Tumor Board) and provide timely communication of critical results.
• Interact with patients to obtain clinical history, provide education, obtain informed consent, and document in CPRS.
• Coordinate patient care by consulting with clinical providers and integrating resources for optimal care.
• Participate in Imaging and general medical staff meetings, committee assignments, and compliance activities.
• Support academic affiliations and teaching programs for technologists, medical students, and residents.
• Engage in research activities, including study design, data collection, analysis, and publication, as supported by the VA.

Requirements

• United States citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are not available).
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school of allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:

• Board certification in Radiology.
• Ability to interpret radiographs, ultrasound, CT imaging, and MRI (MRI interpretation is a bonus).
• Experience performing fluoroscopy exams, including GI fluoroscopy and joint injections.

Physical Requirements:

• Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity.
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for extended periods.
• Capability to transfer patients and objects, and don protective clothing in isolation situations.
• Exposure to infected patients, contaminated materials, and potentially combative patients.
• Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and shift priorities based on stakeholder needs.
