About the role
The Miami VA Healthcare System (Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center) Diagnostic Imaging Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine to moderately complex radiographic examination procedures using diagnostic x-ray equipment such as fluoroscopic units, digital diagnostic units, portable units, and C-Arm equipment used in the Operating Room.
- Checks system for operation and assesses acceptable performance based on established guidelines.
- Maintains proficiency on reconstruction techniques.
- Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients.
- Performs scheduled Quality Control scans and measurements as indicated by CT or radiography equipment vendors.
- Ensures that images are successfully transmitted to PACS and are available for radiologic interpretation.
- Performs digital radiography examinations of the entire body while ensuring that patients are properly attired and prepared before positioning them for requested examination.
- Performs fluoroscopic examinations including but not limited to barium swallow, esophagram, upper GI, small bowel series, barium enemas, and other related procedures.
- Performs dual-energy axial absorptiometry (DEXA) as ordered by providers for the evaluation of degenerative osteoporotic disease.
- Performs other administrative and imaging duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program - evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree - accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
- Certified in Advanced Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology ARRT (R).
- Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level (for a total of 3 years of DRT experience).
- Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines.
- Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed.
- Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results.
- Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest.
Qualifications
- Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, English Language Proficiency, Completion of a full-time training course in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by JRCERT or DOE, Certification in Advanced Radiology by ARRT (R), and completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level.

- Ability to perform scheduled Quality Control scans and measurements as indicated by CT or radiography equipment vendors.
- Ability to perform other administrative and imaging duties as assigned.

Pay
- Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
- Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor.
- The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.
