About the Role

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Adjunct faculty member, under the direction of the Program Director, is responsible for teaching in clinical and classroom settings or laboratories. The role focuses on assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction to meet established course and program objectives. Serving University of Saint Francis (USF) students and the community is a priority, with adherence to the USF Way service expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses consistent with catalog descriptions and content maps at scheduled times and locations.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice into teaching and professional roles.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement through professional peer review.
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly.
  • Uphold the university’s Code of Ethics and professional standards.
  • Facilitate student learning in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings using appropriate methodologies.
  • Create an effective learning environment and communicate clearly with students.
  • Encourage critical reflection and innovation in students.
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate student progress in clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings.
  • Offer individual counsel and guidance to promote student success.
  • Propose plans to improve student performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, including clinical evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes, and attendance.

Responsibilities may be adjusted at the discretion of the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution (bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer.
  • Experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and educational theories/techniques preferred.
  • Current registration in Abdominal, OB-GYN, or Vascular concentrations by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (multiple registries preferred).

Additional Requirements for Clinical Instruction

  • Current TB testing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization.
  • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities.

Skills

  • Competence in educational principles and techniques for higher education classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of the profession, including theory, practice, procedures, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal, verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
