Diagnostic Imaging Technologist - Full Time 72 Hours/Pay Period 2nd Shift, Variable (BMH) *Up to 10K Sign on Bonus Available*

About the role

Performs radiographic examinations of various anatomical parts and systems of the body in order to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of physical injuries or medical disorders. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Works on a rotational basis in several areas of the radiology department performing routine radiology examinations as well as more advanced diagnostic procedures (e.g., Fluoroscopy, joint injections, Lumbar/myelogram exams).

Responsibilities

• Receives or escorts patients into examination area; reviews pertinent patient information; instructs patient concerning the examination to be performed
• Assists provider with procedures
• Positions patients to obtain and effect the results specified for diagnoses; sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization devices as necessary; applies and adjusts radiation protective shielding as needed
• Operates various diagnostic radiographic equipment to provide optimal diagnostic radiology examinations in accordance with physician order/request
• Consults radiologist to clarify orders or to discuss unusual situations
• Performs work in radiology department or other areas as necessary to accommodate patient/provider needs
• Operates all equipment properly and with care; immediately reports any malfunctions, necessary adjustments or repairs
• Assists providers in administering prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque media for examinations
• Performs first aid as required and assists in cases of adverse reaction to contrast media or in other emergencies
• Observes and practices sterile technique
• Maintains cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment
• Maintains accurate documentation of patient and file information
• Maintains appropriate supply levels in area of responsibility
• Demonstrates or oversees on-the-job training for student technologists and other non-professional assistants as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of one: Certificate of Completion of a Hospital-based program or Associate's degree from an accredited school of Radiology Technology
• Registered ARRT required or registry eligible (registry eligible technologists must receive registry within 6 months of hire date)
• Successfully complete BLS training course within 6 months of hire
• Ability to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the department
• Excellent human relation skills to deal with patients, providers, and others in sometimes difficult or sensitive situations
• Customer service orientation
• Leadership and organization skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures
• Positive attitude

Physical Demands

• Work produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue (interactive, repetitive, or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods)
• Operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40% and 70% of the time
• Considerable standing or walking
• Regular lifting of light-weight objects (20 pounds or less)
• Assisting with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients (50 pounds or more)
• Minor straining or fatiguing positions; some fatiguing physical motions required

Schedule

Full time, 36 scheduled weekly hours (72 hours per pay period), 2nd shift, variable schedule. Cost Center: 3100 Radiology Diagnostic (BMH). Location: Kalamazoo, 601 John St., Bronson Methodist Hospital South Campus (South Pavilion).
