DHE Area Manager - OSB

About the role

The DHE Area Manager is responsible for improving area processes by partnering with engineering on capital projects and repetitive downtime issues, reducing waste, improving throughput through increased efficiency, and standardizing the Production Team Members' training and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review pay-for-skill standards & implementation in their areas.
  • Administer pay-for-skill testing.
  • Train operators in their areas to encourage continuous skills upgrade and rotation within each shift.
  • Provide training manuals in their area and tools to access knowledge and skill level.
  • Attend all daily production and/or maintenance related meetings.
  • Achieve mill's goals by contributing to the leadership team.
  • Collaborate with Area Engineers in root cause analysis for all downtime events >30 mins.
  • Analyze data (downtime, throughput per shift, operator effectiveness, shift differentials) to set priorities for maintenance, operator training, and shift teamwork.
  • Prioritize work requests/work orders by ensuring correct data is collected on an ongoing basis.
  • Support PIT teams in addressing performance or housekeeping opportunities.
  • Coordinate operator input for engineering to address downtime issues, throughput enhancements, or MORE objectives.
  • Celebrate best practices with other OSB facilities with similar equipment.
  • Coordinate with OEMs to ensure benefits from best practices developed elsewhere in the industry.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities in their areas with area maintenance leads.
  • Participate in pre-task assessments and nonroutine work in the area.
  • Coordinate the collection of SSOP, LOTO procedures, and safe work practices associated with their area and catalog them in CMMS and/or the site SSOP database.
  • Ensure consumable inventories are maintained in their areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Wood Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing in the wood products industry (OSB, MDF or Plywood preferred).
  • Excellent Project Management skills.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office software.
