Location: Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX | Job Type: W2 Contract | 40 hours per week
About the role
As a DevOps Engineer you will contribute to design, development, testing and deployment of software systems and/or applications. Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work. Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls. Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.
Responsibilities
- Drives application development focused around delivering business valuable features
- Maintains high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits
- Identifies and encourages areas for growth and improvement within the team
- Communicates with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness
- Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results
- Manages AWS IAM, troubleshoots Caterpillar / Cloud connection issues, and works with engineers on CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code tasks
- Meets internally regularly via a standup meeting and supports specific Digital engineering teams as the single point of contact for DevOps support
- Performs other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time
Requirements
- At least 5-7 years of experience in a DevOps Engineer role
- At least 5 years of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud experience
- Proficient with GitHub and GitHub Actions for source control and YAML-based continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) systems
- Proficient writing and deploying Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure using AWS CloudFormation templates
- Strong AWS experience with MLOps & AI services (e.g., SageMaker Notebooks, Bedrock, ECS/EKS, & IAM)
- Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
- 5-7 years of software development experience
- High School Diploma (no degree required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Professional-level AWS and/or Azure certifications related to DevOps, Development, or Architecture
- Proficiency with AWS firewall and network configuration
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure using Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates
- Experience with NVIDIA GPUs for AI use cases, specifically from a cybersecurity and governance perspective
- Analytic mindset and skilled problem solver for troubleshooting issues
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to collaborate cross-functionally and enhance scalability
