Developmental Technician II
This division provides 24-hour care, treatment, and support services for individuals with developmental disabilities, with the goal of promoting growth, independence, productivity, and dignity. Services are delivered according to each individual's habilitation or program plan and focus on supporting their physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with personal care, daily living and domestic skills, socialization, leisure activities, and community integration.
- Provide transportation to appointments and activities, and assist with shopping.
- Ensure safety and supervision of individuals.
- Support rehabilitation and training programs.
- Provide emergency assistance during incidents such as seizures or accidents.
- Perform housekeeping tasks and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Assist with mobility, transfers, positioning, and proper body alignment.
- Provide leadership during assigned shifts by directing, supporting, and assigning work to direct care staff to ensure individuals' needs are met.
- In the absence of the Health Care Supervisor I (DSI), assume responsibility for supervising and guiding direct care staff.
- Ensure prescribed levels of supervision are met for assigned individuals.
- Provide training/assistance to individuals regarding:
- Leisure/social activities and self-management.
- Supporting preferences and choice making to promote social, leisure, community integration skills, and work.
- Daily living skills such as dressing, bathing, face washing, hand washing, toothbrushing, toileting, hair care, nail care, shaving, menses care, medication administration, and dining and meal preparation.
- Provide orientation and training for staff regarding their duties, policies, and procedures.
- Make daily assignments of staff to meet individuals' needs and programming schedules in the absence of the DSI.
- Complete required documentation to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Skills
Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Experience ensuring prescribed levels of supervision for individuals.
- Ability to provide training/assistance in daily living and social activities.
- Experience in staff orientation and training regarding duties, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to make daily staff assignments to meet individuals' needs.
- Proficiency in completing required documentation for compliance.
Pay
Salary Range: $32,444.00 - $48,665.00
A sign-on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s), contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.
Schedule
- Work Hours: 7 AM - 7 PM (Wednesday - Tuesday, rotating shifts).
- Alternate shift: 7 PM - 7 AM, including weekends and holiday coverage.
- Required to work a variety of schedules, weekends, holidays, and extended shift hours to ensure unit coverage and handle emergency situations.
Benefits
Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
- Newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employees working 30 to 40 hours per week are eligible.
- Employees working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
- Not eligible if:
- The employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months.
- The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency.
- DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
- All sign-on bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
