About the Role

As a Technical Advisor in Y-12 Development, you will coordinate and manage complex, multi-discipline engineering services supporting programs, projects, and improvement activities critical to the organization. You will ensure the Y-12 Development organization performs its established scope of work and direct the development, maintenance, and execution of project/task technical work within budget and schedule.

Y-12 Development manages multiple high-profile technology development projects requiring regular reporting to external and internal customers, including Program Integration, YFO, and NNSA. This role involves reporting project status, integrating with funding Program Managers, Principal Investigators, and Production to establish and achieve milestones, and serving as the primary interface for Development on key technology initiatives.

This position demands a high level of technical expertise, a thorough understanding of plant operations, future material processing strategies, and the ability to resolve complex problems with significant visibility. You will also contribute to creating and validating the Annual Control Baseline for Development and other integration activities as needed.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related) from an ABET-accredited program in the U.S. or designated equivalents from Canada, Mexico, the Washington Accord, or ABET-documented substantially equivalent programs AND 12 years of relevant experience.
  • OR MS in Engineering/Physical Science and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • OR PhD in Engineering/Physical Science and 7 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Extensive technical expertise and full knowledge of related engineering systems, calculations, and applications
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineering disciplines
  • Ability to apply technical skills of engineering and science to design, safety, and operation of facilities and/or processes implementing new technologies
  • Proficiency in preparing, reading, and interpreting complex engineering drawings, analysis, and scientific reports
  • Ability to conduct formal presentations to plant personnel and other stakeholders
  • Skills in reviewing projects for technical accuracy and presenting information clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities, leadership, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate effectively with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders

Notes

  • Requires a Q clearance; all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
