Job Summary
The City of Olathe is seeking a skilled and collaborative Development Review Engineer to help guide public and private development projects from review through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates the review of public improvement plans and proposed construction plans, ensuring projects meet city standards and support safe, reliable infrastructure for the community.
- Evaluates and approves project and construction plans, providing technical assistance to construction inspectors.
- Coordinates with outside consultants during construction, attends pre-application meetings, and provides engineering review of projects.
- Makes presentations to the Planning Commission and attends Planning Commission meetings.
- Monitors and calculates utility development fees.
- Provides assistance to construction inspectors and responds to questions and concerns from staff, other departments, consultants, and the general public.
- Participates in special engineering studies to assess project impacts and prepares staff comments for planning commission staff reports.
Qualifications
- Experience: Five years of engineering experience, preferably with development review experience in a municipality or public works department, is required. A master’s degree may be substituted for engineering experience.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field is required. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- Licenses & Certifications: Must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Kansas or be able to obtain a PE license in the State of Kansas within six months of employment. A valid driver's license with a favorable driving record is also required.
