Development Officer - South America

About the Role

ICCBBA is seeking a part-time Development Officer, South America, to serve as its regional representative and promote adoption of the ISBT 128 Standard across the region through stakeholder engagement, advocacy, education, and partnership development. This position offers an opportunity to help advance patient safety, traceability, and international standardization across healthcare systems in the region. Activities will be focused on countries and opportunities prioritized by ICCBBA's regional strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including ministries of health, regulatory authorities, national blood, cellular therapy, tissue, and transplant organizations, professional societies, healthcare providers, software vendors, consultants, and academic experts.
  • Prioritize engagement activities according to ICCBBA strategic objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to advance awareness and adoption of ISBT 128.
• Promotion of ISBT 128
  • Communicate the role of ISBT 128 as a foundational standard best implemented through national or regulatory frameworks along with medical facility adoption.
  • Promote consideration of ISBT 128 within national policies, guidelines, or accreditation frameworks.
  • Position standardization as a system-level decision that enables consistent practice across institutions.
  • Promote awareness of ISBT 128 among stakeholders in blood, cellular therapy, tissue transplantation, and other MPHO sectors.
  • Deliver presentations, participate in conferences, and conduct outreach meetings both in person and online.
• Awareness and Education
  • Adapt messaging to reflect the differing roles of decision-makers (policy and mandate) and healthcare professionals (implementation and compliance), ensuring clear alignment between regulatory intent and operational practice.
  • Support the development of case studies and regional examples.
  • Contribute to the design of educational activities, including webinars, workshops, and communication materials and actively participate in the events.
  • Provide support for translation initiatives and help review translated materials for technical accuracy and correctness.
• Adoption Support
  • Support regulatory pathways including policy discussions, technical consultations, evaluations, and pilot programs.
  • Align facility-level engagement with national regulatory initiatives.
  • Identify early adopter organizations and facilitate connections between stakeholders and ICCBBA technical experts.
• Reporting and Coordination
  • Track stakeholder engagement and maintain accurate records in the ICCBBA CRM (HubSpot).
  • Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the ICCBBA team to align regional and global strategy.

Language and Location

• Remote role, based in South America.
• Fluency in Spanish required; working proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable.
• Professional working proficiency in English required for communication with ICCBBA staff and use of technical documentation.
• Willingness to travel frequently within the region and occasionally internationally.

Contract Details

• Duration: 2 years (fixed-term).
• Working hours: Part-time — 20 hours per week expected.
• Location: Remote, based in South America.
• Reporting to: ICCBBA Executive Director.
• Travel: Regular regional travel required.
