About the role
The Development Officer manages a portfolio of funders, secures funding aligned with organizational and programmatic goals, and builds relationships with current and prospective funders. This role involves prospect research, proposal writing, and reporting to meet fundraising needs.
Responsibilities
- Secure Grants from Institutional Funders (60% of time)
- Cultivate, manage, solicit, and steward a portfolio of funders for general operating and project support.
- Conduct prospect research to identify and vet funders for general operating and project support.
- Collaborate with Content, Finance/Accounting, Director of Institutional Advancement, and community partners to develop project concepts and budgets that align with organizational strategies and funder priorities.
- Write LOIs and proposals to secure general operating and priority project funding.
- Track all communications with and solicitations of funders in shared organizational tools.
- Contribute to overall team and department revenue goals.
- Cultivate Relationships with Stakeholders (25% of time)
- Develop and execute funder engagement strategies to support short- and long-term funding relationships.
- Manage funder recognition for assigned accounts.
- Gather information, write, and produce required reports.
- Collaborate with current and prospective community partners to advance shared goals.
- Create compelling, data-infused, and impact-focused communications for prospective and current funders, reflecting philanthropic priorities.
- Internal Relationship Building (10% of time)
- Collaborate with the Evaluation Team to collect key data relevant to funders, legislators, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with Finance on tailored budgets, grant tracking, reporting, and compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of organizational programming and priorities by developing strong relationships with key content leaders.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5% of time)
- Participate as an active member of the Advancement and Institutional Giving Teams.
- Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on strategy development, problem-solving, and trend identification.

Requirements
- Required Experience
- 2-4 years of experience in Development.
- 2-4 years of demonstrated success in foundation, corporate, and/or government grant-seeking.
- 2-4 years of prospect research experience.
- 2-4 years of experience using a CRM system.
- Preferred Experience
- 4+ years of experience in Development.
- 4+ years of demonstrated success in foundation, corporate, and/or government grant-seeking.
- Grant-seeking experience for public media, education, or the arts/humanities.
- Experience working with local and national funders.
- 4-7 years of prospect research experience.
- 4-7 years of experience using a CRM system.
Skills
- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to synthesize complex ideas into coherent and compelling narratives.
- Skilled relationship builder.
- Strong project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
- Skill in creating compelling presentations and using data to inform funder communications.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple deadline-driven projects.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.

Pay
$65,000 to $75,000 annually.

Schedule
Hybrid work environment. Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to the onsite office a minimum of three days per week.
